Monthly Construction Log - April 2010

Date
1	Installed both footsteps and transfer drilled fairings. Removed fairings for priming. Started to install motor mount brace, and found that it did not align with the tab on the nose gear mount. Problem is that the tabs on the motor mount are slightly offset. Talked to Ed/RANS, and he is sending a replacement brace with the two mounting holes filled in so I can drill to fit.
2	No work.
3	No work.
4	Riveted bracket for static line T-fitting in tailcone and connected static lines. Routed brake lines through cockpit. Epoxied sub-panel switch fascia plate in place.
5	No work.
6	Replaced upper motor mount washers with thin - now have 2 threads exposed on bolt ends. Installed 45deg and 90deg fittings on fuel selector valve and connected hoses. Transfer drilled fuel line support to cockpit floor. Continued assembly of cockpit area.
7	Riveting forward fuselage.
8	Riveting forward fuselage. Installed all rudder pedal cotter pins.
9	No work.
10	No work.
11	Received replacement motor mount brace from RANS with 3/16" holes filled. Fitted to mounts and transfer drilled. Veriprimed and epoxy primed motor mount brace, footstep fairings, vertical stabilizer (and tailcone overlap area), fuel line support, and oil cooler/radiator brackets.
12	Installed motor mount brace. Riveted fuel line support, installed grommet, and connected fuel line to firewall fitting. Test fit vertical stabilizer to tailcone - will need to trim forward edge of skin for clearance.
13	Riveted oil cooler mount brackets to upper oil cooler mount. Per Ed/RANS, you just need to leave enough clearance for the 1/4" washers on the mounting bolts. Gathered parts for radiator and oil cooler installation.
14	Riveted footstep fairings. Bolted rudder horn to rudder. Started oil cooler assembly - changed to thick washers on threaded bushing (KPPW0280) for shank clearance. Found the oil cooler brackets interfere with the support bushing. Another call to Ed tomorrow....
15	No work. Per Ed/RANS, need to cut off the oil cooler brackets.
16	Cut off oil cooler brackets and dressed up edges.
17	Found assembly manual page 13A-01 incorrectly shows motor mount brace above tab on nose gear mount. Should be below - it fits better and is that way in the RANS engine install video. Continued riveting forward fuselage.
18	Torqued all motor mount bolts at firewall weldments. Transfer drilled and riveted subpanel brace and throttle reinforcement.
19	No work.
20	Finished belly skin riveting. Per Ed/RANS, the belly skin rivets at the firewall flange where there is *not* a cowl strap are all Avex.
21	Working on fuel line plumbing forward of firewall. Will need to change from what manual shows - will order some different fittings.
22	Organized cabin heat air diverter valve parts.
23	No work.
24	Primed/painted remaining oil cooler/radiator parts. Riveted oil cooler support strap. Mounted oil cooler and radiator. Installed air diverter valve. Painted subpanel area.
25	No work.
26	No work.
27	No work.
28	Received new fuel line fittings. Installed right angle fitting at firewall and straight fitting at gascolator.
29	No work.
30	Got painted main wheels back from my son. Assembled main wheels and tires.
